McCauley Island is an island in Canada,[2] on the British Columbian Coast, surrounded by Pitt, Banks and Porcher Islands.[1]

The backbone of the island is the McCauley Island Pluton, an igneous plutonic body composed of several granitic to dioritic rock types, dated to the Early Cretaceous.[3]

Features

Keswar No. 16

On 3 August 1891, the government allotted Keswar No. 16 (as a fishing station) to the Gitxaała.[4]

Connis Cove

On the southeast side of the island,[5] contains tidal flats that nearly fill it, making the inner area shallow at low water. Anchorage for small craft is possible about 0.1 miles (0.16 km) northeast of a small wooded islet at the entrance, with depths around 16 fathoms (96 ft; 29 m), and good holding.[6]: 24

Murder Cove

Located on the southeast side of Beaver Passage,[7] a coastal indentation rather than a harbour, a waterfall flows into its side.[6]: 24

Keswar Inlet

On the northeast side of Keswar Point,[8] contains drying reefs in the entrance and further inside the inlet.[6]: 52

Port Canaveral

Claimed by the Gispwudwada as K’naganwatsa (Place of Land Otter Snares)[9]: 40  Between Squall Island and SW end of McCauley Island.[10] The holding ground is secure for small vessels, but uncomfortable when winds are from the northwest.[6]: 52
