Maximus Lobo is a fictional character, a mutant appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men #417 (March 2003), and was created by Chuck Austen and Kia Asamiya.[1][2]
Fictional character biography
Maximus Lobo is part of the Dominant Species, a group of mutants with wolf-like abilities akin to werewolves.[3][1][2] He runs the company Lobo Technologies, a subsidiary of Worthington Enterprises owned by X-Men member Warren Worthington III (Archangel).[4]
In White Plains, New York, the headquarters of Lobo Technologies, Lobo and the Dominant Species kill a small group of humans. When a team of X-Men arrive to investigate the murder, Lobo and the Dominant Species confront the X-Men and force them to retreat.[5] Lobo pursues Archangel and Husk, who learn of his plan to illegally sell Stark Enterprises products.[2] When the rest of the X-Men arrive to help Archangel and Husk, Lobo causes an explosion to cover his escape.[6]
During the "Dark Reign" storyline, Lobo is revealed to have lost his mutant powers during M-Day.[1][7] Following the events of "X-Men: Messiah Complex", Maximus is confronted by Wolf Cub, who he previously attempted to manipulate into joining his cause.[8][2]
Powers and abilities
Maximus Lobo is a mutant who is able to assume a werewolf-like form with superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, reflexes, senses, and powerful claws and fangs.[1][2] He claimed that his bones had evolved to be naturally stronger than adamantium.

Originating in a bizarre chapter of mutant lore, Maximus Lobo is the leader of a group of werewolf-like mutants. Considered an offshoot of homo superior, Maximus Lobo named his lycanthrope followers the Dominant Species, and believed they needed to supplant both regular mutants and humanity. While Maximus Lobo later lost his mutant abilities thanks to the Scarlet Witch, his werewolf form possessed immense strength and razor-sharp claws, personally taking down Wolverine in battle.

The Dominant Species as a group made their debut in Uncanny X-Men #417 by Chuck Austen and Kia Asamiya. Led by Maximus Lobo, the Dominant Species were a collection of similarly powered mutants. Capable of transforming from a human disguise into a hulking wolf-life form, these mutants determined they were an ideal form of the mutant race -- the Dominant Species within the next evolutionary step...they made their presence known to the X-Men during a plan to procure Stark Tech and sell it as weapons -- framing Warren Worthington in the process...they later tried to recruit the Academy X-era student Wolf Cub to their side, targeting the "other species" of mutants present at the Xavier Insititute.

In the 2000s, Marvel hinted that Logan might be part of a mutant offshoot species with wolf-like attributes - a strain running through other characters like Sabretooth, Maximus Lobo and Romulus himself.
