Maestro Dobel Tequila is a Mexican brand of 100% agave tequilas owned by the Beckmann Family, who also own the Jose Cuervo tequila brand. Maestro Dobel is distributed by Proximo Spirits.

History

Dobel was created by and named after Juan Domingo Beckmann Legorreta (Dobel being an acronym formed by the first syllables of Domingo Beckmann Legorreta). Beckmann is the eleventh-generation leader of Jose Cuervo tequilas, in collaboration with master distillers ("Maestros") Marco Anguiano and Luis Yerenas.[1][2] It was introduced in 2008.[3]

Dobel offers blanco, reposado, añejo and cristalino tequilas. Known for introducing the first-ever cristalino tequila, which is aged tequila that is then filtered to remove all color. The tequilas produced by Dobel are distilled from 100% blue agave from a single estate in Jalisco, Mexico.[4][5]

The original bottle had a crystal cut glass design with a thick metallic base.[6] The current bottle is modeled after a 19th-century laboratory bottle.[1] Dobel’s packaging / unique bottle is inspired by a vintage apothecary-style bottle. The heavily-embossed bottle is like the laboratory sample bottles used by the distillery’s Maestro Tequileros.[7] The Maestro Tequilero and the founder of Dobel sign each bottle.

Maestro Dobel Tequilas + Production

All Dobel tequilas are 100% agave and double-distilled. In production, water extracted from naturally-occuring underground aquifers are used. The water originates from the volcano in Tequila, Jalisco.[8] Taking claim to spirit of innovation, production honors traditional methods, while innovating to create new expresions - some of which are first in the world, like Diamante, Humito and Pavito. [9]

Maestro Dobel Diamante

Made with 100% pure agave, double-distilled and aged in Eastern European white oak barrels, then filtered for smoothness and clarity. An aged tequila that is crystal-clear in color. The world's first cristalino tequila.[8] Flavor is a complex mix of caramel, honey and maple with nutty yet citrus, prickly pear and vanilla flavors coming through as well.

Maestro Dobel Blanco[8]

Made with only 3 ingredients: 100% agave, yeast and water. It contains no-additives. Double-distilled in a 100% natural process. Unaged. Bright and clear with silver touches. Flavor is sweet, caramel, honey, maple, nutty, with notes of vanilla.[10]

Maestro Dobel Añejo

Dobel Añejo is 100% agave tequila aged in new American white oak barrels that have been roasted to accentuate the aromas and flavors they impart. Flavor is wood dominant like that of a single malt whiskey with sweet, nutty and vanilla flavors. Agave and fruit notes make this an complex yet smooth liquid.[11]

Maestro Dobel Reposado

100% agave tequila that is aged for six months in charred new American white oak barrels that have been carefully chosen and roasted to accentuate aromas and flavors. Bright gold color. Flavor is a mix of sweet, nutty and vanilla flavors with silky smoothness.[8]

Maestro Dobel Pavito

The world's first Pechuga tequila. Dobel Pavito is the world’s 1st Pechuga tequila: boasting an array of flavors due to the maceration of traditional Mexican fruits and spices. Flavor is unique one with agave balanced with apple, anise, cinnamon and tejocote.[9]

Maestro Dobel Humito

A tequila that uses mesquite wood to replicate flavors from tequilas from the 1600s, having a balance between smoky notes and agave. The world's first smoked tequila. Bright, clear liquid with silver touches. Caramel, honey flavor with fresh mesquite and wood essences.[8]

Maestro Dobel 50[12]

A series of ultra-exclusive tequilas crafted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of founder Juan Dobel. A cristalino tequila and a series of extra-añejo tequilas are offered under this special name.

Maestro Dobel 50 Cristalino Extra-Añejo[13]

Dobel 50 Cristalino Extra-añejo is aged over 3 years in both American and Eastern European oak barrels. The aged tequila undergoes a special filtration process to selectively remove the color, yet maintain the aroma and flavor characteristics from aging, resulting in a clear spirit. Flavor has volume that fills the palate with a silky mouth-feel. Notes of fig, quince, date, pineapple and pumpkin. Hints of cinnamon, vanilla and clove emerge.[13]

Maestro Dobel 50 Anniversary Series

A collection of extra-añejo tequilas[14] started as a celebration of founder, Juan Domingo Beckmann Legoretta's 50th birthday and the knowledge he has inherited as an 11th generation tequila maker. Collector’s item packaged in luxury box. Flavor changes each year based on barrels used for aging and finishing.[12]

Maestro Dobel Atelier

Cited as representing the meeting of Mexican artistry where tequila and artisanal excellence are concerned. An extra-añejo tequila and a bottle hand-painted in vivid colors, using the same technique for crafting traditional “alebrijes” by artisans from Oaxaca. The best of Mexico in a single product.[15] Dobel Atelier is matured in small batches in American white oak and Eastern European oak with special toasting profiles. This results in subtle, balanced aromas and lasting flavor. Flavor profile is warm, woody, caramel and vanilla as well as agave and fruit. Smooth aftertaste.
