Lutheran Social Services of Illinois

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is the social service arm of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)'s three Illinois synods.[1] It is headquartered in Des Plaines, Illinois.[2][3][4]

LSSI started in 1867[1] as an orphanage for children who lost their parents in the cholera epidemic.[5][6]

LSSI Services include foster care,[7][8] mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment,[9] affordable senior housing,[10] residential programs for people with developmental disabilities, and services that help families who have been impacted by incarceration.[4][1][11] LSSI serves over 50,000 Illinois residents each year.[12][4][6]

LSSI is Accredited, Licensed, Certified, and Approved by several Local/State/Federal Government agencies as well as several business groups.[13][14] It is the largest non-governmental statewide social service provider in Illinois.[3][1]
