Loricariichthys hauxwelli,[3] is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish belonging to the family Loricariidae, the mailed catfishes, and the subfamily Loricariinae, the armoured suckermouth catfishes.[2] This catfish is endemic to Peru, where it occurs in the Amazon River basin.[1] This species reaches a maximum standard length of 18 cm (7.1 in) and is thought to be a facultative air breather.[4] The specific name, hauxwelli, honours the collector of the holotype, the British naturalist, explorer and bird collecter, John Hauxwell.[5]
