Ljubomir Zorić
Ljubomir "Ljubo" Zorić (1934 – 4 February 2026) was a Yugoslav and Bosnian politician, lawyer, and sports administrator known for his leadership in local government and contribution to the development of sports in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He held several prominent public roles and was active in political and civic life throughout his career.[1]
Early life and education
Zorić was born in 1934 in the Bosanska Posavina region, into a prominent anti-fascist family in Brčko. He studied law at the University of Sarajevo and graduated as a lawyer, but his interests and activities extended well beyond the field of law.[2]
Political career
Zorić began his political career at a young age, serving as secretary of the Municipal Committee of the League of Communists in Brčko. In 1964, he was elected as a representative in the Municipal Assembly of Brčko and became the head (president) of the municipality, guiding its development and administration.[3][4]
In 1969, Zorić moved to Sarajevo, where he served as a representative in the Republican Council of the Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He later held positions as general secretary of the Assembly of SR BiH and secretary of the Executive Council. He finished his public service career as the republic's social legal advocate.[5]
Sports administration and civic involvement
Aside from his political roles, Zorić was actively involved in sports administration. He served as vice‑president and later president of KK Bosna, one of the most prominent basketball clubs in Yugoslavia and a European club champion.[6] He was also president of the Sarajevo branch of the Sports Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (SOFK) and a member of the Organizing Committee for the 1984 Winter Olympics held in Sarajevo in 1984.[7] He was a recipient of the Sixth of April Sarajevo Award, the city's highest honor.[8]
Personal life
Zorić was married to Bogdana, a schoolteacher, with whom he had two daughters, Vladana and Biljana.[9]
Death
Ljubomir Zorić died on 4 February 2026 at the age of 92. His funeral was held on 9 February 2026 at the Saint Mark's cemetery in Sarajevo.[10]
