She had 75 passengers and crew,[363] or 108 passengers and 18 crew.[364] A former US Navy YF-class lighter was launched on 4 October 1945 at Port Chalmers as Avon[365] and renamed Monique.[366] It was suggested she may have been overloaded.[367]
