Lil Krystalll (Russian: Лил Кри́стал; real name — Ulans Pozņaks; born September 3, 1995) is a Russian-speaking rapper from Latvia.[1] Former member of the creative association "R&B Club".
Biography
Ulans Pozņaks was born on September 3, 1995, in Riga, Latvia. He studied at Riga Secondary School No. 13 together with rapper Platina, graduating in 2013. After that, he lived with him in the UK.
Career
On June 29, 2018, his debut studio album titled "Lil Krystalll" was released. The album consisted of nine tracks and included features from Platina and Ninotriggz. The work had a style typical for that time — minimalist trap, with memorable lyrics characterized by their phrasing and Anglicisms. This was vividly displayed in tracks like "Suka Boss" recorded with rapper Platina, "Bubblegum," "Gucci Denim," and others. The young artist was noted for his distinctive vocal timbre and clear delivery.
On March 27, 2019, the mixtape "Brat 3" (Brother 3) was released in collaboration with OFFMi.[2] The mixtape consists of 7 tracks, one featuring OG Buda. The hip-hop portal The Flow described the album as "energetic rap with a scattering of funny ad-libs".[3] The portal rap.ru described the album as follows: "Inside — youth, audacity, boldness, in short, everything that teenagers love about the new school and that older people hate".[4]
On October 4, 2019, his second studio album No Label was released. Guests on the album included Feduk, OG Buda, Big Baby Tape, Platina, and Lil Morty.[5][6] The album reached position 27 in the "Top 30 Albums of 2020" on VKontakte[7] and position 16 in the list of "50 Russian Albums of 2019" by the hip-hop portal The Flow,[8] while the song "Kukla" (Doll) placed 36th in the list of "50 Best Songs of 2019".[9]
Rise in Popularity
The year 2020 brought significant changes for Ulans. He released two new works with a drill sound — "Shengen" and "Logan". A year later, Ulans returned with the single "Matilda," although no full-length album was released in 2020.
In 2022, the musician, then 27 years old, continued to release new material. In subsequent songs "MB"[10] and "4 DNYA" (4 DAYS), the artist, true to form, continued to describe his turbulent and glamorous life in his signature style. A logical addition was the music video featuring a red Ferrari for the track "4 DNYA".[11]
In January 2023, Ulans presented the music video for the track "Ya Budu" (I Will), which had premiered at the end of the previous year.[12] The remix of the song by 5sta Family, originally released in 2012 and a hit, was recorded with the group's former lead singer Loya. The artist then pleased his listeners with two more works — "CSM" and "Tri Bukvy" (Three Letters), the latter being a collaboration with his long-time colleague Platina. These tracks were included in his new studio album Kristina.[13]
On December 8, 2023, the long-awaited album titled Kristina[13] was released, which topped the Apple Music charts in five countries the very next day: Russia, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, and Moldova. Guests on the album included artists such as OG Buda, 9mice, Obladaet, Yanix, Anikv, The Limba, Platina, Feduk, ALISHA, and Loya. Tracks like "Dzhek Ripper" (Jack Ripper),[14] "Oktyabr" (October),[15] and "Kristina"[16] also received music videos.
