Ladycat De'Ore

Ladycat De'Ore (she/her/they/them), also known as Vette Sternbeck is a 44 year old, Carribean Black woman, who identifies as pansexual. She has been in activism and an activist in the LGBTQ+ community for the past 20 years. She has won many awards for her work in activism and has had a career working as a drag queen. She is very passionate in the work of advocacy, especially around transgendered rights and Black transgendered women.[1]

Family

Ladycat De'Ore's parents were immigrants. Her dad is from Trinidad and her mom is from Barbados. She grew up with freedom to express themselves in New York and could be themselves. Her aunt and niece both identify as being lesbians as well. This has allowed for them to be exposed to the community and be a part of it.[2]

Career and awards

Ladycat has won the YouthSeen's Asante Award at the Black Pride Colorado's Annual Gala for displaying diligence in creating safe spaces and empowering the Queer community. YouthSeen is an organization that provides a welcoming space to people in the Queer community and offers mental health services. [3] Ladycat has also worked with many other organizations to help in support of the Queer community. She has worked for The Center on Colfax's Rainbow Alley as an angel mentoring LGBTQ+ youth.[1] The Center on Colfax is a place located in Denver, Colorado for the LGBTQ+ community.[4] She is involved with the Imperial Court of the Rocky Mountain Empire known as the ICRME.[1] The ICRME is an organization established in 1973 for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people and was built to develop a LGBTQ+ community. This organization is the oldest in the state of Colorado. They are committed to raising money and helping people in their community who are in need of assistance.[5] She is also involved with One Colorado. One Colorado is the state's leading advocacy organization dedicated to advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) Coloradans and their families.[6] She has been fighting ever since the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy was implemented in the 1990's.[1] The "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy banned gay and lesbian members of the army from serving. The ban of Don't ask, don't tell occurred in 2010.[7]

Ladycat is a drag performer in the state of Colorado. She has been in the drag scene for twelve years. Her name Ladycat was developed based off of her high school's mascot. Her inspiration for performing drag came from seeing others perform. With her work from working in drag, it gives her the ability to give back to the LGBTQ+ community.[8]
