Královecký Špičák (German: Königshaner Spitzberg) is a mountain in the Broumov Highlands in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. With an elevation of 881 m (2,890 ft), it is the highest point of the Broumov Highlands.[1]

Location and geology

Královecký Špičák lies close to the Czech–Polish border within the municipality of Královec. Geomorphologically, it forms part of the Vraní hory ridge, a distinct ridge on the western margin of the Broumov Highlands.[2]

The Vraní hory are built predominantly of Permian volcanic rocks. In the Královec area, the Czech Geological Survey describes a thick rhyolite body (up to about 400 m) related to Permocarboniferous development of the Intra-Sudetic Basin, with typical felsitic rhyolites and associated joints and mineral infill.[3] This volcanic bedrock contributes to the pronounced, steep and rugged relief of the ridge.[2]

Recreation

Marked hiking routes connect the area with nearby settlements on both sides of the border, and the summit is a popular local viewpoint within the Vraní hory ridge.[2]
