Kavach

The Vadodara–Mumbai section is among the routes where Kavach, the indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system developed by Indian Railways, is being implemented. Kavach is designed to prevent collisions by automatically applying brakes when a loco pilot fails to respond to signals or speed restrictions.

Trial runs of Kavach have been successfully carried out on sections of the Delhi–Mumbai route under the supervision of the Railway Board, demonstrating enhanced safety performance.[3]

Indian Railways has also stated plans for expanded deployment of Kavach across key routes including high-density corridors such as the Vadodara–Mumbai section.[4]

Infrastructure

The section is fully electrified and consists primarily of double tracks.

Projects for additional third and fourth rail lines between Ratlam and Nagda are underway to increase capacity.[5]

Services

Passenger and MEMU services such as the Kota–Ratlam MEMU Express operate regularly on this route.[6]

Significance

This section forms part of the busy New Delhi–Mumbai main line and is used by numerous passenger and freight trains, making it an important corridor for regional and long-distance connectivity.
