Khant Wai Phyo is a prominent Myanmar student leader and Political activist.

He is currently serving as the Planning and Finance Minister for the Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Government which is part of National Unity Government of Myanmar since November 2025.[1][2]

Political career

Khant Wai Phyo has been an active participant in student rights and democratic movements since his student days. Following the 2021 Myanmar coup d'état, he took a leading role in the Spring Revolution. Later, he began working with the National Unity Government to implement federal administrative mechanisms within the Sagaing Region.[3]

In December 2025, the military council announced a bounty of 20 million MMK (200 Lakhs) for the arrest of three prominent activists— Khant Wai Phyo , Tayzar San , and Nan Lin —in connection with anti-election movements held in Mandalay.

On December 3, 2025, legal charges were filed against ten individuals, including Khant Wai Phyo, at the No. (6) Area Police Station in Chanayethazan Township. The charges were brought under **Section 23(b) of the Electoral Protection Law** following demonstrations near Zegyo Market in Mandalay, where activists called for a boycott of the military-led elections.[4]
