Kate Ryder is an American entrepreneur, journalist, and digital health executive. She is the founder and CEO of Maven Clinic, a digital health company that provides virtual care services related to fertility, maternity, and pediatrics.[4] As an early-stage investor at venture capital firm Index Ventures, Ryder founded Maven in 2014.[5]

Prior to founding Maven, she worked in venture capital and as a journalist, writing for The Economist from Southeast Asia, New York, and London, and for The New Yorker. In 2009, she worked with former U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, assisting him in the process of writing his memoirs about the financial crisis.[6]

Maven is now valued at $1.7 billion.[7] Maven is now established in more than 175 countries, serving 2,000 employers.[8]

Early life and education

Ryder was raised in Minnesota.[1] She attended the University of Michigan, where she was a student in the Honors College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, double-majoring in English and political science.[9]

Following her undergraduate studies, Ryder moved to Spain, where she worked as an English teacher in the public school system.[10][11] She later relocated to the United Kingdom to attend the London School of Economics (LSE). In 2008, she earned a Master of Science degree in anthropology.[12]

Career

Ryder began her career as a business journalist, writing for The Economist, The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal in Southeast Asia, New York and London.[1][13]

In 2009, she collaborated with former U.S. Treasury Secretary, Hank Paulson on his memoir, ''On the Brink''.[14] In 2012, Ryder left journalism and joined Index Ventures,[15][16] working for the company in Europe and the United States and focusing on early-stage investments.[17]

In 2014, she founded Maven Clinic, a digital health company that focuses on the health of families and women.[18][15][19][20]

Ryder has received recognition for her work in healthcare and entrepreneurship from publications including ''Fortune", "Fast Company", and "TIME". [3][13]

Personal life

As of 2021, Ryder and her family live in Brooklyn, New York.[21]
