He served as Brigade Commander of 11th Infantry Brigade at Jalalabad Cantonment.[3] He was a Brigadier General when he was appointed Military secretary to the Prime Minister.[4] He also served as Director of Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau (CTIB) from 2019 to 2021.

Controversy

Kabir Ahmed is among the officers named in recent arrest warrants issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-BD) for alleged involvement in enforced disappearances, torture, or other crimes against humanity.[5]

The warrants were issued on 8 October 2025. After the warrant, the Bangladesh Army issued an order on 8 October 2025 instructing officers listed to report to Dhaka Cantonment and go into custody. Kabir Ahmed did not report. [6] He was declared “absent without leave” (AWOL / “illegally absent”) by the Army because his phone was unreachable, and his whereabouts are being traced.

The Army and relevant authorities have reportedly alerted DGFI, NSI, Border Guard Bangladesh, Airport & Seaport Authorities to ensure he does not leave the country. It is also noted that, There is no confirmed source publicly stating whether the warrants issued have been officially served in full legal form (i.e. court documents) to Kabir Ahmed yet. The Army has stated in reports that they have not yet received official copies of the warrants.
