Kłodzko Główne is the principal railway station in Kłodzko, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of south-western Poland. It is the largest railway station in the town and an important rail node for the Kłodzko Valley.[1] The station lies on railway line no. 276 from Wrocław Główny to Międzylesie and is the starting point of railway line no. 286 to Wałbrzych Główny.[2]

The present station building was erected in 1873–1874, when the town formed part of the Kingdom of Prussia, and was originally known as Glatz Hauptbahnhof.[3][4] The building is a protected historic monument entered in the Polish heritage register.[5]

History

Construction of the station building began in the spring of 1873 and was completed in early 1874.[6] The first train reached the station on 21 September 1874.[7] The new station was built in a neoclassical style as a three-storey structure with two side wings.[6]

Around 1900 a platform canopy about 127 metres long was added.[6] As additional railway routes in the Kłodzko region were opened in the late nineteenth century, the station developed into the main railway node of the town and one of the most important stations in the county.[8]

After the Second World War, when Kłodzko became part of Poland, the station received its current Polish name.[7] The building survived as one of the town's large historic railway structures and was later entered in the heritage register.[9]

In 2017–2018 the station underwent a major modernisation carried out by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe. The works, valued at 22.5 million złoty, included the rebuilding of platforms and tracks and improvements to passenger access.[10][11] By 2018 the renovated station building had also been adapted for passengers with reduced mobility.[12]

Infrastructure

According to PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe's infrastructure documentation, Kłodzko Główne has five numbered passenger platforms.[13] The passenger station is owned by PKP S.A., while railway infrastructure is managed by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe.[14]

The station is situated at Dworcowa 1, north-east of Kłodzko's historic centre.[15]

Train services

Kłodzko Główne is served mainly by regional services of Koleje Dolnośląskie and other scheduled passenger operators. Current timetables show regular trains from the station towards Wrocław, Wałbrzych, Międzylesie, Kudowa-Zdrój and Lichkov in the Czech Republic.[16][17][18]
