Background
Joey C's Roadhouse is a restaurant in Milford, Connecticut.[2] The restaurant served food normally found in a Southern Roadhouse. Joey C's Roadhouse opened in May of 2010.[1] The Catalanos hired a designer who worked on True Grit to design the restaurant they moved to in 2012.[2][3] Milford Magazine described the restaurant as "the perfect backdrop for the reds and greens of homemade salsa."[4]
In 2021, the Catalanos closed the Joey C's Roadhouse restaurant. Ania Catalano stated the logic behind the closer was "“Instead of running two restaurants, we can focus all our attention on the Boathouse in Stratford." The pair also announced they are opening a Joey C's Roadhouse food truck.[3]
Boathouse
Joey C’s Boathouse Cantina & Grill is a restaurant located at The Dock Shopping Center in Stratford, Connecticut. The restaurant opened on July 4, 2015. According to Scott Mitchell, the operator of the Dock Shopping Center, five restaurants in Joey C's Boathouse's location have failed since 2006.[5]
A Stratford woman has made several complaints to "just about every municipal official in Milford and Stratford" because of the large amount of noise made by the restaurant.[6]
Mitchell expressed optimism for the future of the restaurant, stating "I can go have a burger anywhere... But if I can go have a burger and feel like I'm in Key West, that's even better." Karen Kaiser, Stratford's director of economic development, expressed similar views when she stated, "They're already hugely successful and we hope they’re here for many years to come."[5] Steve Cooper, writing for the Milford-Orange Times, commented on how the "vintage and nautical props" improved the vibe.[7]
