Irrigreen is an American technology company that designs and manufactures digital lawn irrigation systems. Headquartered in Edina, Minnesota, the company developed a robotic sprinkler system that utilizes inkjet printing technology to map and water landscapes with precision. The system is designed to reduce outdoor water consumption by up to 50% compared to traditional mechanical sprinkler systems.[1][2]

History

Irrigreen was founded in 2013 by Gary Klinefelter, a former engineer at Entrust, who applied his expertise in inkjet printing to residential irrigation. The company sought to eliminate "overspray"—the waste of water on sidewalks and driveways—by creating a sprinkler head that could be programmed to follow the specific contours of a yard.[3]

In 2023, the company named Shane Dyer as CEO and announced a $15 million seed funding round led by Ulu Ventures.[4] In April 2025, the company closed a $19 million Series A funding round led by Natural Ventures and Burnt Island Ventures, bringing its total funding to approximately $34 million.[5]

Technology

Irrigreen's technology replaces traditional mechanical rotors with a single robotic head per zone. Using a high-speed digital valve and 14 to 16 targeted streams, the system varies the water flow and distance as the head rotates, effectively "printing" water onto the lawn to match its exact shape.[6] The system integrates hyper-local weather data to adjust watering schedules based on real-time environmental conditions.
