Hoze Houndz (also known as L’escouade TOUTOU in Quebec) is a Canadian animated series which premiered October 4, 1999 on Family Channel.[1]

Synopsis

It features six dalmatian dogs (Hozer, Squirt, Steamer, Fontaine, Crystal and Brooke) known as the "Hoze Houndz" who "work" as firefighters and run a fire department in the fictional town of Bonehead Hollow, but instead of fighting real fires, the Houndz mostly end up battling each other. There is always complete chaos when the Houndz show up to "help" the citizens in need of Bonehead Hollow, as within seconds, they always need saving from themsleves. Sometimes, things work out in the end, or is it?

Episode Format

Created by Gerald Tripp and Produced and Animated by Amberwood Entertainment,[2] with production, distribution, pre-sales and licensing by Alliance Atlantis (Seasons 1 to 2 only, with Amberwood Entertainment themselves taking over the latter),[3] each of the 78 half-hour episodes produced consisted of two 11 minute episodes with interstitials.

Guest Stars

Len Cochrane provided the voice of Uncle Mac, Steamer’s Scottish uncle, who appeared in “Great Scot”, “Bagpipe Blues”, “Gopher Golfer”, and “Catch of the Day” (albeit uncredited).

The 2002 episodes "Hockey Night in Bonehead Hollow" and "Phantom in the Arena" featured Ron MacLean and Don Cherry voicing commentators at hockey games, parodying their own real-life roles with Hockey Night in Canada.[4]

In the episode “A Rock and Hard Place”, Canadian armed forces officer and astronomer Marc Garneau starred as himself, when helping Fontaine and Squirt rescue Hozer on a dwarf planet from an aggressive rock golem.

The first part segment, “Great Big Seizure”, from the farewell episode of Hoze Houndz featured members from the Great Big Sea (Alan Doyle, Bob Hallett, and Séan McCann (no relation to the actor)).
