Gorzupia [ɡɔˈʐupja] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Krotoszyn, within Krotoszyn County, Greater Poland Voivodeship, in west-central Poland.[1]

The village originated in the Middle Ages and was first documented in 1486, when Jan Rozdrażewski held hereditary rights to it.[2] By 1494, Gorzupia and the neighboring Smoszew were leased to Stanislaw Sczurski, and in 1507, Hieronim Rozdrażewski became their heir.[2] Ownership was passed through noble families, including the Bulakowscy in 1578 and the Rozdrażewscy in the 17th century.[2] By 1836, it formed part of the Smoszewo estate with 50 households and 406 residents, later dividing into a village proper and a dominium by 1881, serving as a mixed Catholic and Evangelical population.[2]

Today, Gorzupia features community institutions such as a primary school established in the 19th century during the period of partitions and a volunteer fire department founded in 1931.[2] The village maintains an agricultural character within the fertile Greater Poland landscape, contributing to the local economy of Krotoszyn County.[2]

Geography

Gorzupia lies approximately 5km east of the town of Krotoszyn, the administrative seat of the gmina, connected via local roads.[3] It is positioned near Janków Zaleśny to the southeast and Ostrów Wielkopolski, a large regional center, about 25 km further south. Gorzupia forms a part of the rural network of rural settlements in the gmina, including nearby villages such as Bazyny, Benice, Biadki, and Smoszew.[4]
