Geiner Arleyson Martínez Turner (born January 9, 2003) is a Colombian professional soccer player who plays as a center back for Philadelphia Union. Prior to joining the Union, Martínez's career has mostly been in Uruguay.

Early Life

Martínez was born on January 9, 2003 in Quibdo, Colombia in the Choco Department.

Youth Career

Martínez left Colombia to first play for Boston River in Uruguay in 2022. He started on its U19 team (15 games, 0 goals) in the 2022 Apertura. [1] He would then play for its Reserve Team in the 2022 Clausura in Primera División Amateur, Uruguay's 3rd Division, in which he played 17 league games and scored 2 goals.[1]

He left Boston River and joined Deutscher Fussball Klub (named after the Deutscher Fussball Klub, an original Primera Division team of the early 1900’s that later disbanded) for the 2023 Clausura in Primera D, Uruguay's 4th Division, in which he played 6 league games while also playing 2 Cup games.[2]

In early 2024, he returned home to Colombia where we played for the Medio San Juan (Andagoya) team in a 16-team regional tournament, the 2024 Campeonato Amistades del San Juan. Medio San Juan won the tournament and Martínez was named the senior player of the tournament.[3] [4]

Club Career

Juventud

Coming of his strong performance in the Campeonato Amistades del San Juan, Martínez returned to Uruguay and joined Juventud in Segunda División Profesional, the country's 2nd Division, for the 2024 Clausura.[5] He played 16 games, 3 playoff games and 2 Cup games (scoring 1 goal), helping Juventud earn promotion to Liga AUF Uruguaya, the country's 1st Division.[6]

In the 2025 Apertura, he played 1 game before being loaned to Central Español in Segunda División Profesional.

Central Español (loan)

While loaned in the early part of the 2025 Apertura, he played 11 league games and scored 1 goal. He played 6 playoff games, scoring 1 goal and helped Central Español earn promotion to Liga AUF Uruguaya, his second promotion in successive seasons.[7]

Juventud

For the 2025 Clausura, Martínez returned to Juventud in Liga AUF Uruguaya and he played 12 games and scored 1 goal.[6]

Philadelphia Union

On February 3, 2026, Martínez was transferred for a reported $1,000,000 to Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer through the 2027 - 2028 season with additional year options. [8] [9] His first game for the Union was a preseason 2-0 win over Tampa Bay Rowdies. [10]
