Baselios Geevarghese I was a bishop and the second Catholicos of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. He became catholicos in 1925 and died on 17 December 1928.
Early life
Bava was born in Vakathanam, Kottayam district, on 11 January 1870. At the age of sixteen he was ordained as a deacon. He was ordained as a priest and ramban in 1896.[1]
In 1907 he moved to Vakathanam, where he was consecrated a bishop of the Niranam Church on 9 February 1913 and assumed the name Geevarghese Mar Philexinos and was given charge of Kottayam and Angamaly dioceses.
Catholicos
He became catholicos 30 April 1925 and assumed the title Baselios Geevarghese I.
Death
He died on 17 December 1928 and was succeeded by Baselius Geevarghese II
