The Głuszyca Viaduct is a railway viaduct in Głuszyca Górna, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of south-western Poland. It carries the Kłodzko Główne–Wałbrzych Główny railway over ul. Kłodzka and the valley of the Otłuczyna stream.[1]
The viaduct is one of the notable engineering structures on line 286, the historic mountain railway linking Kłodzko and Wałbrzych through the Sudetes.[2]
History
The viaduct was built in 1878 as part of the construction of the railway from Kłodzko towards Wałbrzych.[1] The object register at polska-org.pl also notes a further building phase in 1908–1910, corresponding to the enlargement of parts of the line for double-track operation.[1]
Photographic documentation on the same object page records a keystone on one of the supports bearing the date 1878.[3]
Description
The viaduct stands at about kilometre 39.661 of line 286 in Głuszyca Górna.[1] A local bridge register describes it as a truss railway viaduct built in 1878, supported on three brick piers, about 15 m (49 ft) high and about 149 m (489 ft) long.[4]
The structure carries the railway above the road through Głuszyca Górna and forms one of the characteristic nineteenth-century bridge structures on the Kłodzko–Wałbrzych route.[1][5]
