Life and career

With family ties to Villanueva del Duque, a town in northern Córdoba, he lives in Pozoblanco, where he acts in children's films at the IES Antonio María Calero high school.[1] To date, he has published four books of poetry: Los lugares públicos (1998, revised and expanded in 2008), which was a finalist for the Andalucía Joven prize in 2000 and 2001; Perímetro de la tarde (Rialp, 2007), which received an honorable mention in the prestigious Adonáis Prize in 2006; Las ventanas de invierno, which won the 21st Cáceres World Heritage Poetry Prize; and Vértices, which won the 26th Jaime Gil de Biedma International Poetry Prize.

He is also the coordinator of the collective works Palabra compartida (2007), Divergentes (2015), and Un aplauso interior (2021), the result of a unique initiative to support healthcare workers in the form of haikus during the most difficult months of the COVID-19 pandemic. His work has been included in various anthologies, among them Los círculos del aire (Algaida, 2008), Terreno fértil (Cangrejo Pistolero Ediciones, 2010), and Con&versos (La Isla de Siltolá, 2014). As a fiction writer, he has published two books of short stories: Los que miran el frío (Ediciones Espuela de Plata, Renacimiento, 2011) and El extraño escritor (Ediciones Espuela de Plata, Renacimiento, 2016). In addition to his creative work, he has published numerous studies on Cervantes, Bécquer, Unamuno, Alberti, Aleixandre, Cernuda, Borges, the Duke of Rivas, Teresa of Ávila, Onetti and others. Since 2016, he has been a corresponding member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Fine art and Letters of Córdoba. He is a contributor to the supplement Cuadernos del Sur de Diario Córdoba.
