Fazley Huda Babul (ফজলে হুদা বাবুল; born c. 1973) is a Bangladeshi politician, businessman, and former debater. He has been a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Naogaon-3 constituency since 2026, representing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). He previously served as President of Badalgachhi Upazila BNP and Joint General Secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal (the BNP's farmers' wing). Babul is also known for his business role as CEO of Akij Logistics Limited and for his early involvement in social service and university debating.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Babul was born around 1973 in Badalgachhi, Naogaon District. From childhood, he engaged in social service. In 1987, while in the eighth grade, he received a Talent Pool scholarship for academic excellence. Despite his family not being wealthy, he donated the entire scholarship amount to poor students and needy people, an act that marked the beginning of his public service orientation.[4][5][6]

He studied at the University of Dhaka, where he earned a Master of Commerce (M.Com) degree. During his university years, Babul was an accomplished debater. He was a multiple-time best debater on Bangladesh Television (BTV), received a lifetime honour from BTV, and founded and served as president of the debate club at Jasimuddin Hall.[7]

Business career

Babul serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Akij Logistics Limited, part of the Akij Group of Companies. His election affidavit lists annual income of approximately ৩৪.৮৩ লাখ টাকা (about ৳3.48 million), primarily from salary/employment and rent, alongside movable and immovable assets totaling around ৪.৫২ কোটি টাকা (৳45.2 million) and liabilities of ৬.২৫ কোটি টাকা (৳62.5 million). His spouse owns a 3-katha plot in Ashulia, Savar, Dhaka.[8][9][10]

Political career

Babul has been active in BNP politics since his youth, aligned with the ideals of party founder Ziaur Rahman. He has served multiple terms as President of Badalgachhi Upazila BNP and as Joint General Secretary of the central committee of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal.[2][11]

During the Awami League government period (prior to 2024), when BNP faced widespread repression, Babul provided personal support to arrested leaders and activists. He arranged legal aid, bail, and financial assistance while regularly checking on families, boosting morale among party workers despite facing persecution himself. Local BNP leaders have described him as a guardian figure during difficult times.jibonbrittanto.com

In public statements, Babul has emphasised giving power to the people through elections before any reforms, arguing that elected representatives would naturally resolve issues like commodity prices. He has also affirmed BNP's commitment to the Liberation War, freedom fighters, national anthem, and flag, stating no compromise on these issues.

2026 Jatiya Sangsad election

Babul was nominated by the BNP for the Naogaon-3 constituency (covering Mohadevpur and Badalgachhi upazilas) in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election. This was his first parliamentary contest. Despite a rebel independent candidate complicating the race, he won unofficially with 166,889 votes, defeating the nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md. Mahfuzur Rahman (119,421 votes). The Election Commission announced the results on 13 February 2026.

His victory was widely covered in both English and Bengali media, with reports noting strong local support and calls from constituents for him to be considered for a ministerial position.

Personal life

Babul is married; details of his wife and children are not widely publicised beyond his spouse's asset declaration. He maintains a simple public image, as evidenced by reports of him travelling to events by van rather than car.

His election affidavit disclosed two cases under the Explosive Substances Act (one ongoing from before 2024 and one in which he was acquitted in 2022), which he described as politically motivated.
