El Mamghar is a village in western Mauritania.

History

Historically a fishing village, El Mamghar sits a few meters away from the shore on a coastal dune, and is located southeast of Cape Timiris.[1][2] Inhabited by Imraguen fishermen, whose huts were covered with cotton,[3] the village was the center of "a considerable trade of dried fish."[2][3] The fishermen dried their fish under the sun, which were then transported to Adrar in caravans.[2][3]
