East Kilbride and Strathaven is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament.[2] Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. It has been represented by Joani Reid since 2024; intitially as a Scottish Labour Party MP until she resigned the party whip in March 2026. Reid now sits as an independent.
Boundaries
The constituency comprises the following wards of South Lanarkshire:
- Avondale and Stonehouse, East Kilbride Central North, East Kilbride Central South, East Kilbride East, East Kilbride South and East Kilbride West.[3][4]
The vast majority of the constituency comes from the abolished East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow constituency - excluding Lesmahagow and surrounding areas, which are now part of the new Hamilton and Clyde Valley constituency. A small section of the Avondale and Stonehouse ward came from the abolished Lanark and Hamilton East constituency.[5]
