EJ Marcus (born February 25th, 1997) is an American comedian, writer, and actor.[1][2] He is known for character-based comedy videos posted to TikTok under the handle @ejhavingfun, and as a staff writer on the HBO comedy series I Love LA (2025).[3]
Early life and education
Marcus was born and raised in the Eastmoreland neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.[1] He attended Oberlin College in Ohio, where he studied creative writing, and began performing stand-up comedy in his senior year.[1][3] His mother is a fine art weaver[4] and his father is a writer of TV, film, educational software, and books.[5] Marcus' father's credit include The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, Dinosaurs, Checking Out, and Teech.[6]
Career
After college, Marcus moved to Los Angeles and worked at a preschool while developing material.[7] In January 2022, he posted a TikTok video captioned "Cool LA dad picking up his kid from hipster preschool," which went viral and became the basis for a recurring slate of observational character sketches on his account.[7][2][8] By 2024, the account had more than 500,000 followers.[1] His videos have been described as gently satirical observational comedy focused on specific social archetypes, such as "the friend who can dish it but can't take it" and "your boss who just found out about polyamory."[1][3]
In 2025, Marcus served as a staff writer on the first season of the HBO comedy series I Love LA, created by Rachel Sennott.[9] He has also guest-starred on the HBO series Hacks.[2] In March 2026, he was announced as part of the cast of the independent feature film Desert Flowers, directed by Niki Koss.[10] Marcus is also set to star in the romantic comedy Something You Should Know About Me, written and directed by Andy Fidoten and executive produced by Lilly Wachowski, scheduled to world-premiere at the 2026 Tribeca Festival.[11][12]
Personal life
Marcus is transgender. He lives in Los Angeles, California.[2][1]
