Dongmei Chen
Dongmei "Maggie" Chen is a Chinese and American mechanical engineer and control theorist. She works at the University of Texas at Austin as a professor of mechanical engineering, holding a J. Mike Walker Professorship in Mechanical Engineering. Her research applies control theory to autonomous vehicles, small-scale energy systems, wind turbines, and drilling automation.[1]
Education and career
Chen received a bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University in 1990, specializing in precision instrumentation and methodology. After a master's degree in industrial engineering at Eastern Michigan University in 1993, she switched to mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan, receiving a second master's degree in 2001 and completing her Ph.D. in 2006.[2]
She spent 16 years working in the automotive industry, before joining the University of Texas as an assistant professor in 2009.[2]
Recognition
Chen was elected as an ASME Fellow in 2025.[3]
