Dayananda Sagar University (DSU) is a private university located in Karnataka, India. Established in 2014, it is the newest academic phase of the Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI), a group with a 60-year legacy in Indian education.[3]
Overview and Legacy
Dayananda Sagar University is built upon a 60-year educational heritage established by the Late Shri R. Dayananda Sagar in the early 1960s. The university operates under the aegis of the Mahatma Gandhi Vidya Peeta (MGVP) Trust, which manages 28 educational institutions and several multi-specialty hospitals (Sagar Hospitals) in Bangalore.[4]
From its humble beginnings with just four students, the DSI group has grown to cater to over 15,000 students across multiple disciplines. DSU was formally established by the Government of Karnataka under the Dayananda Sagar University Act, 2012 to serve as a multidisciplinary research university focusing on Engineering, Health Sciences, Management, and Law.[5]
Campuses
The university maintains two primary campuses designed for different academic functions:
- Main Campus (Harohalli): A 162-acre tech-enabled campus located in the Ramanagara district. This is the primary residential campus housing the School of Engineering and various research centers.[2]
- City Innovation Campus (Hosur Road): Located at Kudlu Gate, Bangalore, this campus houses the administrative offices, the School of Commerce and Management, and industry-partnered "Innovation Labs."
Rankings
- NIRF 2024: The university participated in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, maintaining strong data metrics in Management and Engineering.[6]
- IIRF 2025:
- KSURF: Awarded a **4-star rating** and ranked 4th among "New Universities" by the Karnataka State University Rating Framework.
Research and Innovation
DSU is known for its "Innovation Labs" established in collaboration with global industry leaders including NVIDIA, Bosch Rexroth, and General Electric.
- DERBI Foundation: The university’s incubation center, supported by the DST, has supported over 100 startups with a focus on healthcare and digital tech.[9]
- Grants: Faculty research is supported by national agencies such as the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and DST-ANRF.
Student Achievements
- Aerospace: In October 2025, Aerospace Engineering students won **2nd place** at the National Level CANSAT/Model Rocketry Competition, jointly organized by IN-SPACe and ISRO.[10]
