Carmela's Diary (Italian: Il diario di Carmela) is a 2019 Italian film directed by Vincenzo Caiazzo.[1] It received a theatrical release in Italy on 17 May 2019.[2]

Plot

The film tells the story of a 15-year-old girl on the outskirts of Naples, forced to work for her family's drug dealing business. Carmela experiences her adolescence as a prison, forced to live as a recluse. Her mother, Maria, forces her to sell drugs alongside her older brother, Ciro. Carmela is forced to give up everything, even one of the things she loves most: going to school. Powerless against the circumstances that lead her toward a destiny of fear, sacrifice, and coexistence with crime, Carmela tries to escape by confiding everything in her best friend, her diary.
