After breaking into the club's under-21 team during the 2022–23 season, Richards signed his first professional contract with Derby County and was promoted to the under-21 squad on a full-time basis ahead of the 2023–24 season.[6] Richards made 10 Premier League 2 appearances during this season for the under-21s.[1] He was released by the club at the end of the 2023–24 season.[7]
After spending several months without a club, Richards joined Dorking Wanderers in early December 2024, making his debut in their Surrey Senior Cup win against Lingfield. For the second half of the season, he went on to play for their B team in the tenth tier Southern Combination Football League Division One. He scored on his debut on 1 February 2025, in a 3–0 win over Montpelier Villa.[8] In August 2025 he joined Bromley, playing for their U21 team in the Suburban League.[9]
On 8 November 2025, Richards joined National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough on a short-term loan.[10] In January 2026, he joined Erith Town on loan.[11] After impressing with 4 goals in 8 games for the struggling Dockers, he joined title chasing Three Bridges in March 2026, scoring on his debut against Beckenham Town on 10 March.
