Byun Byung-joo (Korean: 변병주; Korean pronunciation: [pjʌn.bjʌŋ.dʑu] or [pjʌn] [pjʌŋ.dʑu]; born 26 April 1961) is a former South Korean football player.

International career

Byun played for the South Korea national football team at the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cups, but South Korea failed to win a victory at the both World Cups. He said he was being inconvenienced by hitting Bulgaria's goalpost with his shot, which could have earned South Korea's first-ever World Cup victory if successful.[1]

Byun scored South Korea's second goal, helping his team defeat Saudi Arabia 2–0 in the 1986 Asian Games final.

Style of play

Nicknamed the "Bullet" in South Korea, Byun showed fast dribbles and accurate crosses.[2] He was an important winger for South Korea at the time, although he was criticised for his monotonous style.[3]
