Burak Aykun (born 22 September 2006) is a Turkish weightlifter competing in the 61 kg category. He became the European Youth Champion in 2023 and has won multiple medals in European and World youth and junior competitions.[1]
Career
In 2023, Aykun competed at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships held in Chișinău, Moldova, in the 55 kg category. He lifted 98 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the clean & jerk, winning the gold medal with a total of 228 kg.[2]
At the 2023 World Youth Weightlifting Championships in Durrës, Albania, he won the bronze medal in the 55 kg category with lifts of 102 kg in snatch, 125 kg in clean & jerk, and a total of 227 kg.[3]
In 2024, he took part in the 2024 European Junior & U23 Weightlifting Championships held in Raszyn, Poland. Competing in the 61 kg category, he lifted 116 kg in snatch and 145 kg in clean & jerk, earning the bronze medal with a total of 261 kg.[4]
At the 2024 World Junior Championship in León, Mexico, Aykun ranked tenth in the 61 kg category with 115 kg in snatch, 142 kg in clean & jerk, and 257 kg total. In 2025, he competed at the 2025 European Weightlifting Championships held in Chișinău, Moldova, lifting 120 kg in snatch, 148 kg in clean & jerk, and finishing fifth with a total of 268 kg. He also finished fifth at the 2025 IWF World Junior Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, with 118 kg in snatch, 148 kg in clean & jerk, and a total of 266 kg.[5]
