Brockington College is a mixed Church of England secondary school in Enderby, Leicestershire, England. Founded in 1957, it originally operated as a middle school for students aged 11 to 14 before becoming an 11–16 secondary school. The school converted to academy status on 1 August 2012.[2]
Features of the college
Admissions
Brockington College admits students aged between 11 and 16.[3] Its informal catchment area extends more than 13 kilometres (~8 miles) and is centered on Enderby and Narborough.[3] This informal area allows students to be received from nearby communities, including Stoney Stanton, Whetstone, Blaby, Braunstone, and Leicester Forest East.[4]
School culture
Brockington College describes itself as having a Christian ethos that is guided by eight core values: compassion, forgiveness, justice, koinonia, perseverance, wisdom, learning, and respect.[5] Every two weeks, the local clergy organises a “spiritual reflection” program for its students. The school also encourages students to attend an annual Christmas service held at the local church.[6]
House system
In 2020, there were four Houses within the school: Plantagenet, Stuart, Tudor, and Windsor. Students frequently participated in extracurricular and enrichment activities representing their House.[7]
Facilities
Brockington College was built in 1957 using an inter-grid prefabricated construction method, also used at four other schools in Leicestershire.[8] These buildings later proved costly to maintain and were eventually replaced across all five sites and the college was redeveloped between September 2006 to September 2007, as part of a £19 million project.[9]
An artificial grass football pitch was added in 2009, funded by the Football Association, Next, and local sponsors. The college also offers bookable rooms and sports facilities for community use, including an indoor sports hall and a multi-use games area.[10][11]
