AllMusic says that Blodhemn is Enslaved's "blackest" album, and a step forward in songwriting, due to its shorter, cleaner songs and compressed sound. It also describes the song structure as having rock and roll elements in "Urtical Gods" and "Nidingaslakt".[1]
