Blake Ortiz-Goldberg (stage name Blaketheman1000) is an American pop/indie artist and producer based in New York City. Born and raised in Southern California, Ortiz-Goldberg premiered as Blaketheman1000 in the late 2010s, blending indie rock, hyperpop, emo, hip-hop, country and electronic influences into tongue-in-cheek, self-aware songs.[1][2] He gained notice in the early 2020s through energetic, performance-art style shows in NYC’s Dimes Square music scene and viral singles such as "Ibuprofen" (2018) and "Dean Kissick" (2022). Notable releases include the For Those with Eyes to See EP (Nov 28, 2025)[3] and the 2026 single "I Want More Money" (feat. Chloe Cherry) (2024).[4]
Early Life
Blake Ortiz-Goldberg grew up in the Los Angeles area, including Huntington Beach, California.[2] His grandfather (a member of 1960s East LA band Thee Counts) taught him guitar and singing during his youth.[2] Ortiz-Goldberg cites a wide range of early musical influences, from Lou Reed and Linkin Park to Usher and Green Day, leading to the eclectic style he would later develop.[2] He began making music in college, releasing his first single “Blake” during that time.[1] He moved to New York City in 2018, which he credits as a catalyst for finding his musical niche in the burgeoning Dimes Square scene.[2]
Career
As Blaketheman1000, Ortiz-Goldberg established himself on New York’s downtown scene through viral singles and unconventional live performances. He has released numerous self-produced singles beginning in 2018, and in November 2025 he released an EP For Those with Eyes to See[3] via Pizzaslime Records (his long-time indie label). Ortiz-Goldberg has built a reputation for "inventive and unconventional" live shows: for example performing in an outdoor dining hut and closing a poetry reading at New York’s KGB Bar.[2][1] He co-manages and often collaborates with the NYC synth-pop duo Frost Children[2][1], and has been a fixture in the so-called Dimes Square art scene (meeting regularly at venues like Ming’s Café). His tracks (often humorous or surreal) have accrued a cult following online and at intimate venues. As of early 2026 he has not released a full-length album, but has indicated plans to do so.[2]
Musical style and influences
Critics describe Blaketheman1000’s music as a playful, "rap-meets-electro-pop" blend with "campy lyricism and light-hearted synths".[5] Ortiz-Goldberg himself notes that his genre is "a combination of everything I’ve been into: EDM, indie, emo, hip-hop, country and top 40".[2] He cites influences ranging from Drake and Carly Rae Jepsen to Pavement and Lou Reed.[1] Overall, his style merges indie rock and pop songwriting with elements of hip-hop flow and electronic production, reflecting the New York post-pandemic hyperpop/"indie sleaze revival" scene.[6][2]
