Beyond Reality is the 2002 debut album by Finnish power metal band Dreamtale. Marko Hietala from Nightwish and vocalist Tarot sings on track number 4 and 5, Sanna Natunen sings for the tracks "Silent Path" and "Farewell".
According to Powermetal.de, the album had a consistent mood, and the songwriting was steady without "one true climax". While the melodies "aren't new", they were "good and not overly simplistic", incorporating hints of progressive metal and "gothic elements". The reviewer also described singer Rami Keränen's voice as "powerful and clear, secure across the entire range, but not annoyingly high-pitched like so many of his peers".[1]
Finnish outlet Imperiumi saw Dreamtale's music as being a "mix" of "a large number of well-known power metal bands". The reviewer had reservations regarding Keränen's voice; "Keränen doesn't have a particularly beautiful/handsome, nor a particularly high singing voice, although in his own style he performs his task almost commendably". The guest vocalists were good, and musically, Dreamtale had written in "nice little surprises and hooks here and there (e.g. exciting keyboard patterns)". The rating became 8.5 out of 10.[2]
The album was also reviewed in the Finnish press.[3]
