Bayou Cane is a census-designated place (CDP) in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is located just north of Houma and had a population of 19,770 in 2020.
Bayou Cane is the principal city of the Houma–Bayou Cane–Thibodaux metropolitan statistical area, which includes all of Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes.

Bayou Cane is located at 29°37′35″N 90°44′54″W / 29.62639°N 90.74833°W (29.626285, -90.748396).[2]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.6 square miles (20 km2), all land.

Bayou Cane first appeared as an unincorporated place in the 1950 U.S. census;[4] and as a census designated place in the 1980 United States census.[7]
2020 census
As of the 2020 census, Bayou Cane had a population of 19,770. The median age was 35.7 years. 25.0% of residents were under the age of 18 and 15.3% of residents were 65 years of age or older. For every 100 females there were 90.0 males, and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 86.7 males age 18 and over.[11][12]
99.0% of residents lived in urban areas, while 1.0% lived in rural areas.[13]
There were 7,743 households in Bayou Cane, of which 34.3% had children under the age of 18 living in them. Of all households, 39.4% were married-couple households, 18.6% were households with a male householder and no spouse or partner present, and 32.0% were households with a female householder and no spouse or partner present. About 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The CDP contained 4,761 families.[11]
There were 8,774 housing units, of which 11.8% were vacant. The homeowner vacancy rate was 2.0% and the rental vacancy rate was 17.0%.[11]
