BML Munjal University, a private, not-for-profit university, is located in Kapriwas, Gurgaon district, Haryana, India. The university was founded in 2014 by the promoters of the Hero Group,[1] and is named after the group's chairman and founder Brijmohan Lall Munjal.
BMU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in management, law, engineering, and liberal arts. The university is recognised for its experiential learning approach, global academic collaborations, thriving innovation ecosystem and a strong focus on industry-aligned education.
History and Timeline
2013
● Announcement and Academic Partnership On November 27, 2013, the Hero Group, led by the Munjal family, formally announced the establishment of BML Munjal University. The aim was to create a fully residential, interdisciplinary institution with strong industry orientation. From the outset, BMU entered into a collaboration with Imperial College London [2] to co-design programmes in engineering and management, foster student and faculty exchange, support joint research and develop digital learning platforms.
2014
● Establishment and Launch
BMU was officially established under the Haryana State Legislature Act No. 21 of 2014. The university received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC)[3] under Section 2(f), granting it the authority to award degrees as per Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956.
● Phase I Launch
In August 2014, BMU began its first phase of academic operations by opening the following schools:
○ School of Engineering & Technology
○ School of Management
Plans for further expansion were announced to include additional schools in Liberal Arts and Law in later phases.
2015
● Legacy Honoured The university was named after its founding figure, Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal (Padma Bhushan awardee), recognising his entrepreneurial legacy and devotion to practical education.
2018
● Established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to monitor and assure the quality of academic and teaching processes, aligned with UGC and NBA guidelines.
2019
● Launch of School of Law
As envisioned in phase II, the School of Law was launched, expanding BMU’s academic portfolio and enhancing its professional studies offerings.
2020
● BMU introduced the B.Tech in Engineering Science in 2020, designed for interdisciplinary and science-driven learning[4].
2023–2024
● New School of Liberal Studies
BMU continued its expansion with the inception of the School of Liberal Studies in the academic year 2023-24, further broadening its multidisciplinary academic framework.
2025
● 10th Anniversary Celebrations
In March 2025, BMU celebrated its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of steps toward educational innovation and its transformation into a modern institution.
