Aslam Rana MP is a Canadian politician from the Liberal Party of Canada. He was elected Member of Parliament for Hamilton Centre in the 2025 Canadian federal election.[1] He defeated the NDP after over 20 years of them holding the seat.[2] He is of Pakistani descent.[3]

Early and personal life

Rana immigrated to Canada from Pakistan in 2003.[4] He is the father of five children.[4]

Rana is a civil engineer, with a master's degree from Toronto Metropolitan University.[5]

Prior to his election, Rana was a resident of Mississauga, Ontario.[6]

Political career

Rana was one of three new Members of Parliament elected in Hamilton, Ontario during the 2025 election.[5]

Rana received support from Prime Minister Mark Carney during the 2025 election campaign, who visited Hamilton Centre twice on campaign stops.[7][8]

Rana's victory was notable, as it represented the loss of a longtime NDP stronghold, previously held by MPs Matthew Green and David Christopherson.[9]

Following his victory in 2025, Rana stated that he would focus on housing and infrastructure in Hamilton Centre, drawing on his engineering background.[5]
