Antonia Salzano
Antonia Salzano is the mother of Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old English-born Italian who died from acute leukemia in 2006.
Biography
Salzano was nonreligious and came from a middle-class family.[1][2] She married Andrea Acutis in 1990, a member of Lazard Brothers.[2] After her son's birth on 3 May 1991, Salzano was converted to Catholicism by interest, including when her son began asking questions about Sacraments: the Holy Trinity, the original sin, and the resurrection.[3]
Her son's canonization
Following her son's death on 12 October 2006, Salzano was present with the rest of her family at his canonization, alongside Pier Giorgio Frassati, on 7 September 2025 in the Vatican City.[4]
