Amtsgericht Neurode was a Prussian Amtsgericht (local court) seated in Neurode in the Province of Silesia, now Nowa Ruda, Poland.[1] The historic court building survives and, together with the former Gerichtsgefängnis (court prison), now houses the Komisariat Policji Nowa Ruda.[2] It formed part of the judicial district of the Landgericht Glatz.[3]

History

The court was established on 1 October 1879 as part of the reorganisation of the Prussian court system introduced in connection with the Reich justice reforms.[4] Its district comprised the Kreis Neurode, except for those localities assigned to other court districts.[5]

Court building

In the late nineteenth century, a purpose-built courthouse with an attached Gerichtsgefängnis (court prison) was erected in Neurode.[6] Plans preserved by the Architekturmuseum der Technischen Universität Berlin attribute the design to Karl Friedrich Endell and date the project to 1887–1890.[7][8]

After 1945, the former courthouse and Gerichtsgefängnis were repurposed. The building complex is now used by the Komisariat Policji Nowa Ruda.

Records

Records relating to the court survive in archival repositories in Germany and Poland. The Geheimes Staatsarchiv Preußischer Kulturbesitz preserves files of the Prussian Ministry of Justice concerning the Amtsgericht Neurode.[9] In addition, the Polish state archival portal Szukaj w Archiwach lists numerous surviving land and property records created by the court, some of them extending into the 1940s.[10]
