Ambassador Airways was British charter airline formed on 14 February 1992 as a subsidiary of the travel company Best Leisure Travel and based at Gatwick Airport.[1] When Best Travel Ltd went bankrupt the fleet were impounded and operations of the airline ceased with the last flight on 28 November 1994.[1]
History
The airline started operations with a leased Boeing 757 aircraft, originally flown by Caledonian until a charter license was granted.[1] It operated under the call sign "AMBASSADOR".[2] It operated the first service under the charter license on 21 May 1993 from Newcastle to Larnaca.[1] In the summer of 1993, the airline provided 75,000 seats with its two Boeing 757s.[3] The fleet expanded for the summer 1994 season to operate four Boeing 757s, two Boeing 737-200s and two Airbus A320s.[1]
Suffering from lack of financing and accumulating debts, the airline ceased operating on 28 November 1994 and was placed in administration the next day.[4][5]
Fleet
The airline's fleet comprised the following aircraft:[1]
- 4 x Boeing 757-200
- 2 x Boeing 737-200
- 2 x Airbus A320
