Alois Schwabl (4 March 1912 – 7 December 1977) was an Austrian athlete. He competed in the men's shot put event at the 1952 Summer Olympics.[1][2][3]

Early Life and Career

Alois Schwabl was born on 4 March 1912 in Pfaffstätten, Niederösterreich.[2][4] He became one of Austria's most dominant shot put athletes during the 1950s, establishing himself as the country's premier competitor in the discipline.[4]

Athletic Career

National Championships

Schwabl achieved remarkable consistency at the national level, winning the Austrian shot put championship seven consecutive years from 1950 to 1956.[4] This seven-year winning streak established him as the leading Austrian shot putter of his era.[4]

1952 Summer Olympics

Schwabl competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, which marked his first and only Olympic appearance.[1][2][3] In the qualifying round, he threw 15.00 meters to secure the 9th position and advance to the final.[5][6][7] During the final competition, he recorded a distance of 14.45 meters, finishing in 13th place overall.[5][6][7] The event was won by American Parry O'Brien with an Olympic record throw of 17.41 meters.[5]

1954 European Championships

Two years after his Olympic appearance, Schwabl represented Austria at the 1954 European Athletics Championships in Bern, Switzerland.[8] In the qualification round on 27 August 1954, he threw 14.14 meters, finishing 19th overall.[8]

Personal Best

Schwabl's personal best in the shot put was 15.17 meters, achieved in 1952 at Wien (Vienna).[9] This performance placed him among the world's top shot putters that year.[9]

Later Life

Alois Schwabl died on 7 December 1977 at the age of 65.[2]
