Adijat Avorshai Idris (born 6 December 2001) is a Nigerian freestyle wrestler. She is a two-time African champion, having won the gold medal at the 2024 African Wrestling Championships and the 2025 African Wrestling Championships.[1][2]

Career

Idris represented Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where she competed in the women's freestyle 50 kg event and finished 15th overall.[3][4] She secured her Olympic place at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament in Hammamet, Tunisia, where United World Wrestling records show wins over Nada Medani Ashour Abdalla Mohamed and Debora Valeria Ture.[5]

At the senior continental level, Idris won the gold medal in the women's freestyle 55 kg event at the 2024 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria. UWW records show that she defeated Egypt's Aya Eid Gomaa Soliman and Tunisia's Fatima Zahra Bouchibi on her way to the title.[6] Nigerian media also reported her victory as one of the team's gold-medal performances in Alexandria.[7]

In 2025, she successfully defended her African title at the 2025 African Wrestling Championships in Casablanca, winning the 55 kg gold medal. UWW match records show victories over Egypt's Salma Mohamed Fawzy Elbostany, Tunisia's Sara Ettaki and Algeria's Achouak Djamila Tekouk in the final.[8] Nigerian press described her as one of the country's standout gold medalists at the tournament.[9]

Earlier in her career, Idris won the bronze medal at the 2018 African Youth Games.[10]
