The 8th Astra Film Awards, presented by the Hollywood Creative Alliance, took place on December 8, 2024, at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles.[1][2][3][4][5] The nominations were announced on November 25, 2024.[6]
The body horror film The Substance and the musical fantasy Wicked led the nominations with eight each, followed by Emilia Pérez with seven and Anora with six.[6][7][8] Ultimately, Wicked won the most awards with four, including Best Picture and Best Director (Jon M. Chu).[1]
The nominees for the Creative Arts Awards were announced on the same day as the Film Award nominees, with its winners also announced on December 8. Both ceremonies, along with the Astra TV Awards, were recorded and streamed live on KNEKT.tv and YouTube. Comedian Loni Love hosted the Astra Film Awards, while actor and comedian Peter Kim hosted the Astra Creative Arts Awards.[1][6][9]
Ceremony information
This is the second ceremony following the rebranding to "The Astra Awards" by the Hollywood Creative Alliance.[10] For the genre categories, "Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller" was introduced while "Best Action Feature" was expanded to include science fiction, "Best Comedy Feature" was expanded to include musicals, and "Best Horror Feature" was expanded to include thrillers.[11]
Three international-centric categories (Best International Filmmaker, Best International Actor, and Best International Actress) were all discontinued, following their debut at the previous ceremony.
