The 2026 summit will be the first for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and the last summit for French President Emmanuel Macron.

In November 2025, it was reported that Macron was considering inviting Chinese leader Xi Jinping to the summit.[4] Several news agencies reported that Japan had expressed its concerns to France about China's possible participation in the summit amidst its diplomatic crisis with China.[5][6]

In February 2026, Macron invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi[3] and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva[2] to the summit during his visit to New Delhi for AI Impact Summit.

Due to a scheduling conflict with Donald Trump's birthday and UFC Freedom 250, the summit, initially planned for 14–16 June, has been postponed by one day.[7]
