The 2026 Portuguese Social Democratic Party leadership election is expected to be held during May 2026, in accordance with party rules which stipulate that leadership terms last for 2 years. A national party congress is also expected to be held following the leadership vote.[1][2]

Incumbent party leader, and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has confirmed his intention to run for another term.[1] Former leader and Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho has been quite critical of Montenegro's leadership and premiership, and there has been media speculation about his possible candidacy for the leadership, but Passos Coelho says he's not a candidate.[3][4]
