Preseason

The Catamounts were picked to finish tied for seventh place in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll.[16][17] Vermont hosted Saint Michael's College in an exhibition game on September 20 and defeated the Purple Knights 8–0.[18] The Catamounts recorded 59 shots on goal, had eight different goal scorers, and had seen all three of their goaltenders in net.[19][20]
