The 1998 Westminster Council election took place on 7 May 1998 to elect members of Westminster City Council in London, England. The whole council was up for election and the Conservative party stayed in overall control of the council.[3]
Background
In the years after the 1994 local elections there were a total of 3 by-elections to replace councillors who resigned from their seats, however none of these elections resulted in seats changing party.[4] In addition to these by-elections there was also a seat that became vacant without enough time to hold another by-election, leaving the council composition just before the election as follows:[5]
| 15 | 44 | 1 |
| Labour | Conservative | Vacant |
